Overview

The Poodle is very unique and special dog for many reasons, one being the amazing clips that are done to this dog breed.

Let's take a look at the terms used for the various areas of a Poodle's body and/or coat trimmings.

Bloom: The seen of the coat when in prime condition

Bracelets: The rounded tufts of hair left on each back leg of the Continental and English clips.

Clipped or Shaved Bands:  The areas between the bracelets on the back legs.

  Crescents ( or "Kidney Patches"):  Terms used to describe the curved clipped area on each side of the flank.

Feathering or Fringes: The longer hair on the Poodle's ears.

Mane or Ruff:  The long, profuse hair on the neck, shoulders, ribs and chest that is shaped round.

Occiput: The posterior or back point of the dog's skull.

  Pack or Saddle: The closely trimmed hindquarters.

Pompon:  The rounded tuft of hair left on the end of the Poodle's tail.

Puffs: The rounded tufts of hair left on the bottom of each foreleg on the Continental and English Saddle clips.

Rosettes: The rounded tufts of hair left over the hips.

  Topknot:  The long hair on the top of the head from the stop to the occiput.
